DO
1) Do properly examine site conditions before fitting a
timber floor.
( should include sub-floor and air humidity check )
2) Do check externally that there is a damp proof
course and that there are not any external drainage
issues that may cause damp inside.
3) Do get a specialist company to address damp
problems.
4) Do use an experienced and professional installer.
5) Do maintain your floor.
DON’T 1) Don’t float any solid wood floor
2) Don’t fit wooden floors over damp sub-floors
( over 2%rh)
3) Don’t fit floors in damp conditions. ( ie, plaster
walls still damp, no windows, rising damp, etc)
4) Don’t store floors in damp conditions for long
periods of time – even in plastic wrapping.
5) Don’t fit solid wood floors over under floor
heating.
6) Don’t expose wood floors to excess heat – ie
radiator pipes.
Good wood floors can serve for a very long time: the right
product, fitted and maintained correctly will provide lasting
value. So don’t cut corners and it will still be doing its job long
after anybody can remember where it even came from! |
