This summer we kicked off our Spotlight Series, shining a light on the latest projects by our favourite stylists, architects and designers, discovering the inspirations behind them and how they’ve used Ted Todd floors.

If you follow us on Instagram, you’ll know it’s no secret how much we love interior designer Em Gurner’s work. Emma’s projects are the perfect fusion of scandi style and maximalism, using natural materials with bold colours to create beautiful interiors that wouldn’t go amiss in a Wes Anderson classic. In early 2016 Emma set up the interior design company Folds Inside, creating beautiful living spaces for both residential and commercial projects.

What were your main inspirations for getting into the industry

I began my career about 15 years ago working as an interior stylist on photo shoots. I was fortunate enough to visit and style many beautiful houses and meet many inspiring people and from there my passion for interior design grew.

Tell us a little about the projects you’ve worked on that you are most proud of.

Folds Inside was launched as an interior design company just over a year ago and within a short space of time I have been given the opportunity to work on a variety of great projects including office spaces, restaurants, houses and individual rooms. One of my favourite spaces I have designed recently is the private dining room of a gastropub in South Kensington, London which was given a complete facelift.

What are you currently working on?

I’m currently working on a gorgeous open plan living area, a cosy and glamorous TV room and I have another exciting restaurant design in the pipeline as well.

What current interior design trends are you a big fan of?

I’m greatly inspired by Scandinavian design and therefore I’m a big fan of the use of natural materials like plywood, rattan and linen but in contrast I also love the maximalist trend of mixing bold contrasting patterns and colours. I like to try to achieve a happy balance of the two in my schemes.

What do you like most about using Ted Todd flooring, and do you have a favourite product of ours?

At Ted Todd there is a fantastically varied choice when it comes to the look as well as the budget. I have always found the flooring to suit the project and the showroom has a great selection of large boards to view. I recently used your Raw Cotton Oak planks as I love the natural, matt quality these have, giving that Scandi look I was aiming for.
