Exotic Wood

Rare, densely figured timbers — Morado and Tajibo among them — graded for their natural depth of colour and grain rather than for uniformity. Small runs, and every board different.

Exotic Wood wood flooring

Within the Ted Todd range, exotic wood flooring refers to floors made from distinctive hardwood species such as Tajibo and Morado. These timbers offer deeper colour variation and different grain characteristics from more familiar species such as European oak. The current exotic wood flooring range consists of engineered floors in plank and herringbone formats.

The current range includes Tajibo and Morado. Tajibo has warm golden to dark brown colour tones and a tight grain. Morado is a darker brown timber with distinctive black streaks and stripes.

The main difference is their natural appearance. Tajibo, used for Birnham, has warm brown colouring and a relatively tight grain. Morado, used for Darwin, has a deeper brown tone with contrasting dark streaks. Both have a smooth surface and satin lacquer finish, but each species gives the room a different depth of colour and grain detail.

Yes. Both Birnham and Darwin are available as narrow herringbone blocks measuring 450mm by 80mm. They are also offered as narrow planks measuring 135mm wide and up to 2.1m long. Herringbone creates a structured pattern with more visual movement, while planks produce a cleaner, more linear layout.

Yes. The floors in this category use two ply engineered construction and are 19mm thick with a 4mm hardwood wear layer. Engineered flooring is formed from layered sections of wood, arranged to improve stability and reduce the timber’s natural movement.

These floors have a satin lacquer finish, so they should be maintained using products designed for lacquer based wood flooring. Remove loose dust and grit regularly, avoid excessive moisture and use protective pads beneath furniture. Ted Todd recommends Floor Care Easy Clean for regular cleaning and provides dedicated systems for maintaining lacquered finishes.

Yes. You can order up to three free flooring samples. Select the plank or herringbone format on the relevant product page before adding the sample to your basket. Samples allow you to compare the natural colour, grain and finish in the light of your own room before making a decision.
