Flooring Certification Explained

Putting sustainability at the heart of every floor and project

We go above and beyond the usual environmental and sustainability standards, and have many third party accreditations. We know that these accreditations and logos can often be unfamiliar when you’re choosing a floor, so we have broken them down into this handy chart.

In short, all of our timber (whether floors or wall cladding) follow the UK Timber Regulations as standard, which verifies that all of our timber is legally harvested.

The vast majority of our floors are then also accredited by FSC™ or PEFC, both of which are global organisations that independently confirm that all of our floors that are made from new timber are sourced from well managed forests.

Many of our Woodworks by Ted Todd floors are reclaimed, which is a great way to reuse and recycle old wood to save it from going to waste.

Old wood can’t be certified in the same way that new timber can be, but it is very environmentally friendly as it extends the lifecycle of wood that was felled decades (or even centuries!) ago.

All of our floors are SVOC free and have low VOC emissions, which make them a great choice to have in your home. SVOCs are pollutants at the molecular level which are emitted from synthetic man-made materials such as LVT, vinyl and plastics

Reclaimed and Bespoke Floors from Woodworks by Ted Todd

Woodworks by Ted Todd is Ted Todd’s sister brand, specialising in reclaimed, antique and bespoke wood floors. Its craftspeople work with timber that carries a history, from salvaged boards and architectural materials to rare antique wood with naturally aged grain, colour and texture.

Reclaimed flooring is one of the most resource-conscious ways to specify a wood floor. Reusing existing timber extends the life of a valuable material, reduces demand for newly harvested wood and keeps suitable boards in use for another generation. The marks, tonal variation and worn surfaces developed over time also give each floor a character that cannot be reproduced through artificial ageing alone.

Where a project requires a bespoke floor, Woodworks considers every detail, including timber selection, format, pattern, texture and finish. This made-to-order approach allows the floor to be designed for its setting and crafted with long-term use in mind.
