Tattu
Tattu Edinburgh makes its mark with Ebony herringbone and plank Edwin Interior Design developed the restaurant around tattoo-inspired detailing, sculptural forms and Tattu’s signature blossom tree. Ebony appears in plank and herringbone formats, carrying a deep black monochromatic surface through the richly detailed interior. The Woodworks by Ted Todd leisure specification team worked with Edwin Interior Design to select a floor suited to Tattu’s visual identity and the practical demands of the restaurant. Ebony was specified in two formats, allowing the pattern to change between areas while retaining the same distinctive tone and finish.

The name Tattu combines ‘tattoo’, the art form that informs its interiors, with ‘tatau’, an ancient word meaning ‘to make a mark’. At its Edinburgh restaurant, deep black Ebony flooring from Woodworks by Ted Todd appears in herringbone and plank formats alongside the brand’s highly detailed interior scheme
Each Tattu restaurant has its own identity, a principle represented by the ‘u’ in the brand name. In Edinburgh, intricate decorative features and the signature blossom tree encourage guests to experience the interior gradually
Edwin Interior Design was appointed to develop the Edinburgh interior. The award-winning studio used sculptural elements, detailed surfaces and Tattu’s signature blossom tree to establish an atmospheric setting for the restaurant
Woodworks by Ted Todd, our sister brand specialising in bespoke handcrafted reclaimed and antique timber floors, was selected to work on this project.
Working with the Woodworks leisure specification team, Edwin Interior Design selected Ebony in oversized herringbone and super wide plank formats. Its rich black colouring and monochromatic finish suited the restaurant’s dramatic interior and allowed a consistent tone to continue across different floor patterns
Every detail of a Tattu restaurant has been considered to ensure that it connects with the identity of the brand. The final result takes you on a sensory journey in every aspect.
Ebony’s monochromatic surface connects the restaurant’s different areas and supports the strong visual identity of the wider scheme. Edwin Interior Design’s detailed approach demonstrates how established cultural references can inform a contemporary hospitality interior.

Ebony up close
Ebony is made from FSC-certified European oak with a deep black tone and contrasting grain detail. The Superwide design is available in plank and oversized herringbone formats, with a substantial 6mm wear layer. Burnished hardwax oil provides durable protection for high-traffic hospitality interiors.
