Bespoke Workspace
Limited reclaimed pine, handcrafted throughout a London workspace. Recovered from a disused warehouse at Liverpool docks, the longleaf pine retains the distinctive grain, fire markings and character of its former life. The client approached Ted Todd in search of characterful timber that could be used across flooring, wall cladding and bespoke desks. The range of applications called for Woodworks, our sister brand specialising in extraordinary British floorcraft. Its makers selected a limited quantity of reclaimed longleaf pine and handcrafted every element for the workspace.

An international asset management company approached Ted Todd while refurbishing its offices. The project called for timber with exceptional character and quality that could be used across flooring, wall cladding and bespoke desks.
The architect and end user were closely involved throughout the selection process. The breadth of the commission called for the specialist capabilities of Woodworks by Ted Todd, our sister brand specialising in extraordinary British floorcraft. Its team proposed a limited quantity of reclaimed longleaf pine with the strength, provenance and natural variation required for each application.
The material had been recovered from a disused warehouse at Liverpool docks, a site closely connected to Britain’s industrial history. Warehouses in the area were once used by the timber trade to store wood arriving from around the world.
The docks sustained extensive bombing during the Second World War. Blackened sections across some of the 20ft beams retained evidence of fire damage, adding another layer to the material’s history.
Longleaf pine, also known as pitch pine, was historically selected for demanding structural applications, including ship masts, bridges, railway carriages and sleepers. Its strength made it suitable for use throughout the office, while its grain and time-worn markings gave each surface a distinct identity.
At the Woodworks reclamation centre, every beam was assessed and prepared before being handcrafted into engineered boards, wall cladding and bespoke desks. Much of the timber was rift sawn, an unusual cut that places the grain at approximately 45 degrees and creates a refined, linear appearance.
This reclaimed longleaf pine was available in a limited quantity. Every piece has since been put back into use across completed projects. Woodworks continues to work with rare and limited timbers, including other reclaimed pines, for projects seeking material provenance and distinctive character.
Through Woodworks, the Ted Todd Group has since worked with the client across further offices in London, the United States and Asia.
