Harrods’ yellow brick road: a bespoke timber and metal floor A Wizard of Oz-inspired route runs through the toy department of Harrods’ Knightsbridge store. Its ladder pattern, rotating square detail and real metal insets turn the floor into a playful architectural feature within the retail space. Our bespoke-specialist sister brand, Woodworks by Ted Todd, worked with Harrods to develop and make several floors across the store. The yellow brick road required particularly precise floorcraft, combining multiple timber elements and metal details within a complex repeating arrangement.

Working at the world-renowned department store in Knightsbridge, we worked with Harrods to produce a variety of floors across the store, including the yellow brick road – inspired by the Wizard of Oz – which runs across the children’s toy department.

This was a highly complex project involving a variety of different elements to create a ladder pattern. Using a rotating square and real metal inset squares, we were able to create a striking yellow brick road, finished with a highly durable lacquer.

The floor has stood the test of time to perfection, and even now looks as good as the day it was installed. The yellow brick road will certainly withstand many more years of wear.

The bespoke design uses a rotating square pattern within a ladder formation, punctuated by real metal inset squares. A highly durable lacquer protects the surface against intensive retail footfall. The floor has retained its distinctive appearance throughout years of use.
