Nando's, Trafford Centre project interior

Nando's

Inside Nando’s Trafford Centre: Monroe oak laid on the diagonal Harrison Design combined distressed concrete, glass pendants, yellow leather and South African artwork within the Trafford Centre restaurant. Smoky Monroe planks run diagonally across the interior, introducing a strong geometric line beneath the material-led scheme. Woodworks by Ted Todd was commissioned by Harrison Design to supply an engineered wood floor for the refurbishment. Woodworks is our sister brand, specialising in extraordinary modern and historic wood floors, handmade panels and bespoke architectural details, developed and made in its Cheshire workshops. Monroe from the Editions collection was selected and installed diagonally by DRC Property.

Monroe

Five miles west of Manchester city centre and just a stone’s throw away from the Manchester Ship Canal lies the neo-baroque inspired Trafford Centre. Located in the Orient, inside Europe’s biggest food hall is the ever-popular afro-Portuguese restaurant Nando’s.

When Harrison Design were tasked with refurbishing popular Trafford Centre eatery Nando’s, they approached our commercial team to supply an engineered floor. Monroe, from the Editions collection of Woodworks by Ted Todd, was specified throughout.

Monroe from the Woodworks Editions collection was selected for its smoky grey-brown colouring and handmade character. The nature-grade European oak is brushed to reveal its grain, rays and knots before being double-fumed to develop its distinctive tone.

DRC Property installed the extra-wide planks diagonally, introducing a strong geometric line across the restaurant, and finished with a darkening stain. The floor sits alongside concrete, glass and leather, while bright upholstery and South African artwork reflect Nando’s visual identity and Johannesburg origins.

Monroe up close

Monroe is made from nature-grade European oak, with visible grain patterns, rays and knots. The timber is brushed and double-fumed to develop its smoky medium-to-dark brown colouring, then protected with a super-matt Naked Skin Lacquer. The 220mm extra-wide planks are 20mm thick with a 6mm wear layer and reach lengths of up to 2.4 metres.
