Nando's
A bespoke double chevron for Nando’s Nottingham. Harrison Design specified a handmade French oak floor from Woodworks, our sister brand, for a vibrant restaurant shaped by natural materials and bold pattern. Having worked with Harrison Design across several Nando’s restaurants, Ted Todd specification consultant Nick Holcroft supported the early flooring discussions. The bespoke requirement led to Woodworks, our sister brand specialising in extraordinary British floorcraft. Its makers developed 150m² of double chevron from Velentre, using French oak selected for its mellow tone and natural variation.

Project Overview
Each Nando’s restaurant is inspired by South African design, with bold statements and traditional patterns featuring throughout these immersive spaces.
Recently opened in Netherfield, Nottingham, this new location is no different.
Created by Harrison Design, African-inspired prints feature on the walls and patterned furniture appears across the open-plan space with sharp lines and geometric shapes drawing the eye.
Harrison Design are strategic, global branding, interior design and architecture specialists. They are passionate about telling stories that bring hospitality and leisure experiences to life with exciting and intriguing design choices.
Designing across the UK, USA and Australia, Harrison have won awards for their fantastic work and have been a huge part of the Nando’s success story, working with the company to craft a set of values and an ethos that constantly engage both the Nando’s team and the guest.
Nando’s also advocate sustainable design, using only the most environmentally friendly materials available. They are committed to achieving absolute zero direct emissions and reducing the carbon footprint of a Nando’s meal by 50% by 2030, for example.
In this design, sustainable materials are key, with our sustainably certified wood flooring taking pride of place. Elsewhere, there is an abundance of greenery, with plants and timbers in every corner of the restaurant.
How we helped
Having previously worked with Harrison Design – and on many different Nando’s spaces – it made perfect sense for the designers to get in touch with our expert team to provide the flooring for this project.
Our specification consultant Nick Holcroft, who has expertise on all things commercial and leisure flooring, worked alongside the team at Harrison Design to achieve the bold design statement they set out to create.
To achieve the unique floor required for the scheme, Nick directed the bespoke specification to Woodworks by Ted Todd, our sister brand specialising in extraordinary British floorcraft. Its makers developed a double chevron from Velentre in the Woodworks Aged collection, using French oak selected for its mellow tone and natural variation. A total of 150m² was made by hand in the Cheshire workshops, with every element carrying its own grain and character.
The edge detail of every block was then punctuated using a sharp micro bevel, allowing each shape to stand out from the next and imbuing a design choice synonymous with modern commercial experiences.
The high levels of traffic expected are battled against by a 20mm thick floor with significant 6mm wear layer which can be revitalised throughout the years.
Pair this with Woodworks’ Burnished Hardwax Oil, which penetrates deep into the floor for maximum protection, and we have a floor which will uphold the spine of the space for years to come.

Outcome
Through natural materials, sustainable choices and African influences, Harrison Design have achieved another personality-packed Nando’s restaurant which aligns directly with the identity of the brand.
With no two Nando’s ever being the same, the Nottingham edition is another design triumph for the popular restaurant chain.
The space is vibrant and engaging, providing the perfect setting for family dining. Modern touches are seen throughout the project, with natural woods, metals and fabrics providing a comforting link to the outdoor world.

Velentre up close
Developed from Velentre, the bespoke French oak floor uses a precise micro bevel to define every element. Its bold geometry complements the restaurant’s pattern-led interior, while its 20mm construction supports sustained footfall.
