Red Dog Saloon opened its Nottingham restaurant with a design rooted in the food and culture of the American South. Its interior needed a characterful wood floor that complemented the restaurant’s warm, smoky palette.
Woodworks by Ted Todd was commissioned to supply the flooring. Woodworks is our sister brand, specialising in extraordinary modern and historic wood floors, handmade panels and bespoke architectural details, developed and made in its Cheshire workshops.

Working closely with the design team, Woodworks selected Velentre in two formats. Extra-wide planks run through the main restaurant, while Parquet de Versailles panels introduce an intricate pattern at the entrance. Using the same aged French oak and burnished finish across both formats maintains continuity as the floor changes geometry.
Velentre’s rich, dark tones sit alongside skip-sawn detail, scrubbed knots and an undulating texture. Soft-rolled edges allow this texture to flow between the boards and panel components, while a satin burnished hardwax-oil finish completes the surface.
The 20mm engineered construction includes a 6mm nominal wear layer. The planks measure 220mm wide and are supplied in random lengths from 0.6 to 2.2m. At the entrance, 980mm-square Parquet de Versailles panels establish a distinctive first impression.
