Ted Todd HQ

Inside Ted Todd HQ: the Group’s own floors, panels and reclaimed timber Intrinsic worked with Ted Todd and Woodworks to turn the Cheshire headquarters into a working expression of the Group’s material knowledge. Mayer Chequerboard panels, Old War Office Pine, English Yew, reclaimed Shirtworks timber and circular Elm designs appear across floors, walls, joinery and furniture. The project brought two members of the Ted Todd Group brand family into one workspace. Woodworks by Ted Todd is Ted Todd’s sister brand, specialising in extraordinary modern and historic wood floors, handmade panels and bespoke architectural details, developed and made in its Cheshire workshops. Woodworks craftspeople collaborated with Intrinsic to select, restore and make antique and reclaimed timber elements for different areas of the headquarters.

Since 1993, Ted Todd has grown from a business founded on creativity and a deep knowledge of wood into an established flooring brand. The company moved to Chesford Grange in Warrington in 2007, where its headquarters remain today.

The redesign of the sales office offered an opportunity to bring two members of the Ted Todd Group brand family together within one working environment. Woodworks by Ted Todd is Ted Todd’s sister brand, specialising in extraordinary modern and historic wood floors, handmade panels and bespoke architectural details, developed and made in its Cheshire workshops.

Ted Todd appointed multidisciplinary design studio Intrinsic to develop a functional workplace that expressed the Group’s identity through its own materials. Led by founder and CEO Robert Walsh, the project explored unexpected applications for wood across floors, walls, doorframes, joinery and handmade furniture.

Intrinsic worked closely with Woodworks craftspeople to select antique, reclaimed and specialist timbers from the Group’s stockholding. Each material was considered against the function and proportions of its setting.

Mayer Chequerboard panels form the principal floor across the circulation spaces. The large-scale geometric design accommodates walkways moving in several directions, while the antique Elm retains its original patina and undulating surface.

Woodworks’ Old War Office Pine was carefully sanded and polished for the kitchen, including a long single piece used as a tabletop. English Yew introduces a smooth, marble-like surface elsewhere in the scheme. Reclaimed timber from Shirtworks appears across the kitchen floors, while circular Elm designs define the meeting rooms.

Together, these materials make the headquarters a working expression of the Ted Todd Group. The office demonstrates how specialist floors, reclaimed timbers and bespoke architectural details can be applied across a commercial workspace.

Intrinsic said: “We really enjoyed working with Ted Todd on their new sales office in Warrington. It was such a pleasure to work with Robert Walsh and interpret his vision for the space using their fantastic timber products.”

Mayer Chequerboard is made from genuine antique Elm with original patina and hand-polished undulations. Each 980mm square panel is 20mm thick, with a 4–6mm wear layer and hand-rolled edges. A Burnished Hardwax Oil Satin finish accentuates the dark colouring and historic surface character.
