How Darwin herringbone connects Belle House to Victoria Station’s golden age of travel Shed drew on the station’s Art Deco heritage when designing Belle House for The Office Group. Darwin herringbone follows the linked ground and mezzanine workspaces, its warm tone sitting comfortably alongside jewel-toned velvet upholstery. Ted Todd worked with Shed to identify a suitable floor for this busy workplace beside Victoria Station’s main concourse. Workspace Specification Consultant Verity Mayne coordinated samples and technical guidance, supporting the final specification of FSC-certified Darwin herringbone.

London’s Victoria Station has always been a gateway to the world. In the 1930s, luxury trains would depart from Victoria Station on glamorous trips to Paris and Venice. These immaculately restored trains still operate today – and they depart right next to the main entrance to The Office Group’s Belle House.
Last year, The Office Group were designing their newest location at Victoria Station for their design-led workplace offer, consisting of drop-in work spaces, meeting rooms and individual offices. They turned to Shed, who were tasked with designing the art-deco space.
Shed approached us to supply the flooring, and had a strong idea of what they wanted for the space from the beginning. Significant reconfiguring of the space had taken place to establish an impressive new main entrance directly off the station concourse. Ground and mezzanine floors provide linked drop-in work space, particularly suited to The Office Group’s members arriving or departing from Victoria Station.
Verity Mayne, our specification consultant who specialises in working with clients to specify flooring for the work space sector, worked with Shed to ensure that the samples presented to the client were suitable.
Darwin is from our Specialist Woods collection. With its tight grain and warm tone, Darwin was ultimately specified in a herringbone format, and has been paired with rich jewel-toned velvet upholstery for a warm and sophisticated space.
The herringbone blocks are 2-ply engineered, and the Morado is bonded to 100% birch plywood for the ultimate in stability. The blocks are smooth, and finished with super durable naked skin lacquer which allows the floor to be very hard-wearing whilst keeping its beautiful, unfinished appearance.
This floor is FSC® certified, something that was important to both Shed and The Office Group, and the core of Ted Todd’s sustainable sourcing ethos.

Darwin is distinguished by its tight grain and warm colouring. The smooth herringbone blocks have a stable 2-ply engineered construction, with Morado bonded to 100% birch plywood. A durable Naked Skin lacquer preserves the timber’s natural, unfinished appearance.
