Smoky mirrors, antique metals and bespoke wood flooring at The Coal Shed London Design LSM translated the restaurant’s Brighton identity into an atmospheric double-height setting on London’s Southbank. Bespoke wide planks and double-fumed herringbone continue the deeply aged character established through dark colour, reflective surfaces and antique metalwork. Having collaborated with Design LSM on several hospitality projects, Woodworks by Ted Todd developed a bespoke floor specification for The Coal Shed London. Engineered wide planks and herringbone parquet blocks were made with a 6mm wear layer to support the demands of a busy restaurant.

Following great success on the south coast with The Salt Box and The Coal Shed Brighton, The Coal Shed London brings a taste of the Brighton seaside to the bank of the River Thames. Residing in an impressive double height building with a remarkable glazed façade, The Coal Shed with its famed roasted rare breed meat and south coast seafood certainly makes its mark on Southbank.
The Coal Shed London’s décor mirrors its Brighton sister through smoky mirrors, masculine palettes and antique metals. Design LSM masterminded the interior, creating an atmospheric, luxurious restaurant that appeals to both residents and city workers within the area. The site comprises of a restaurant with a (non-imposing) open kitchen, stunning mezzanine floor that overlooks the main restaurant and an intimate 20-cover private dining room.
We’ve had the pleasure of working with Design LSM on a number of projects in the past, Indian Accent and Issho to name but a few, and were delighted to collaborate on The Coal Shed. We specified a bespoke wide plank engineered wood floor and double-fumed herringbone parquet blocks, which have a deeply aged look. With a 6mm wear layer, these floors can handle high levels of footfall with ease.

Sherwood up close
The specification combines wide engineered planks with double-fumed herringbone parquet blocks. Double fuming gives the timber its deep, aged colouring, and the change in format introduces variation across the dining spaces. Both designs have a substantial 6mm wear layer for long-term durability under high footfall. The basis for this floor was Sherwood from our Classic Futures® collection.
