CHOOSING THE PERFECT FLOOR
How do I order samples?
You can order a sample of a floor by adding it to your basket from the product page. You can view your basket in the top right corner.
All of our samples are sent to your doorstep free of charge. We offer three free samples per customer – if you would like to see more samples, please get in touch so we can help you find your perfect floor.
How do I see bigger samples of your floors?
Our Cheshire and London Design Centres display our entire range, including full-length pull-out panels. This allows you to experience your favourite floors on a larger scale, feel their texture, and see more of the natural variation of the boards.
Your local trusted Ted Todd retailer will also have panels, though which floors are displayed may vary from retailer to retailer. Once you have found your local expert, we recommend giving them a call to see which floors are available to see up close.
What is the difference between solid and engineered wood floors?
Engineered wood floors are constructed from layered sections of solid wood. The sections are glued together and offer a durable yet lightweight natural flooring solution. Engineered wood flooring is perfect for underfloor heating, older homes, and rooms below ground level as its construction resists natural expansion and contraction.
Engineered wood flooring typically has a 3-6mm hardwood wear layer, and can be sanded and refinished as long as this wear layer remains intact.
Solid wood flooring has not undergone this construction and gluing process – it is made entirely from a solid piece of hardwood and offers the maximum in durability as it can be sanded down and refinished many times over its life.
You can learn more about our different construction types here.
Can I mix plank and herringbone?
Absolutely. Your local Ted Todd retailer and installation expert will be able to guide you through mixing formats, as some calculation may be required to achieve the design you’re looking for. Something to bear in mind is that all flooring must be the same thickness to work together.
Our Residence® and Create® collections were expertly developed to allow you to mix and match tone and format, from chevron, herringbone, plank, and even squares.
I need advice on my project – where can I go?
Our retailers are local experts in our national network. They’ll be able to give you trusted professional advice for all things wood flooring, including choosing a colour and tone, queries about underfloor heating, technical advice, installation, and a quote for your project.
We are also more than happy to welcome you to our Cheshire and London Design Centres, where our friendly and knowledgeable team can walk you through our whole range in a free-of-charge, no obligation design consultation.
For commercial customers, we warmly invite you to bring your clients along.

What is the warranty on my floor?
In 2023, we celebrated our 30th anniversary. That means we now have over three decades of expertise in quality wood flooring.
To celebrate this milestone, we increased the warranty on all our floors to 30 years, meaning we guarantee the beauty and integrity of our floors for a lifetime.
FINISHES AND FLOOR CARE
What finishes do you offer?
We offer a range of oil and lacquer-based finishes to suit the needs of any space.
Our Woodworks floors are available in a selection of unique artisanal finishes – you can explore them here.
Not only functional, our finishes also bring out the natural beauty of your floor, varying in sheen from matte to gloss.
What is the difference between an Oil-based finish and a Lacquer-based finish?
Oils, such as our Burnished Hardwax Oil, soak into the wood, protecting the floor from within.
Lacquers, such as our new Absolute Matt® Lacquer, form a durable surface over the wood.
How do I take care of my floor?
We have developed dedicated Floor Care Systems to make caring for your floor easy, created with our finishes in mind.
Unlike other cleaners which may contain harmful solvents, our Floor Care range is solvent-free. This not only protects your floors from harsh chemicals, but also your health.
Each kit contains cleaning solution, a microfibre mop head, and microfibre pads, giving you everything you need to keep your floors spick and span.
Do I need to re-oil my floor?
Replenishing oils and polishes in our range can be used to refresh your floor’s protective layer, keeping your floor as beautiful as the day it was installed.
