The Ro Hotel

Spread over four floors, the former Hydro hotel was first built as a spa hotel in 1881 and has stood prominently above over Bowness-on-Windermere town ever since.

The interior design has been carried out by award winning architectural practice APM Design Ltd who were responsible for full refurbishment of all customer facing areas and 87 bedrooms in the hotel.

Two of our floors were specified for the restaurant and bar areas within the hotel.  Liquorice and Furrow were selected for their colour, texture and durability

The overall style of this renovation project is casual-contemporary. And although the interiors of the hotel are contemporary it retains many of its period features.

Project Type - Hotel
Location - Cumbria

Project Overview

Opened in July 2021, The Ro Hotel is modern family hotel which underwent an £8 million makeover that’s been two years in the making.

Spread over four floors, the former Hydro hotel was first built as a spa hotel in 1881 and has stood prominently above over Bowness-on-Windermere town ever since.

Recently acquired by Thai-based Lake Merritt Group, the hotel has undergone a dramatic upgrade which set out to offer a new kind of hotel in the heart of the Lake District.

The interior design has been carried out by award winning architectural practice APM Design Ltd who were responsible for full refurbishment of all customer facing areas and 87 bedrooms in the hotel.

How we helped

Having worked with APM Designs on their 2020 Northern Design Award winning project Athelis Club & Spa, they approached our business development specialist Nick having been delighted with the high-quality products and excellent service they had previously received.

Featured floor

Two of our floors were specified for the restaurant and bar areas within the hotel.  Liquorice and Furrow were selected for their colour, texture and durability.

CR05PL-Liquorice
Liquorice Herringbone Engineered Oak Floor

Liquorice is a rich dark brown floor with warm red tones. It is finished with a hardened oil finish that combines a natural look with a subtle sheen.

This oil-based finish has an outer layer that is hardened to give extra wear and splash resistance, making it easy to maintain and a perfect choice for a high traffic area that requires lots of cleaning.

Outcome

The overall style of this renovation project is casual-contemporary.

The chic bar features wooden parquet floor which is complimented with cool turquoise and warm orange accents. Other natural materials such as slate and stone are used to bring the scheme together.

In the restaurant area, mustard seating contrasts with cool blues and grey upholstery which is set on a foundation of another of our most versatile floors – Furrow.

Specified in a herringbone design, Furrow is a light and warm floor that has hints of grey – ideal for complimenting the chosen colour scheme.

Although the interiors of the hotel are contemporary it retains many of its period features including beautiful cornicing, high ceilings and sash windows with impressive lake views.

Conclusion

We are very proud to have our floors feature in this landmark project, which has transformed one of the oldest and most popular hotels in the Lake District. We hope our floors will feature in the new open-plan bar and restaurant for years to come and enhance the experience of everyone who visits the Ro Hotel.
