Soho Loft
Project Type - Residential
Location - London
Project Overview
London is home to many converted warehouses which offer a desirable combination of historical interest, unique industrial features, and contemporary design-led interiors.
One prime example of a gorgeous warehouse renovation is Soho Loft, located in the heart of London’s West End. The apartment has been fully renovated into a tranquil space away from the bustle of London life and uses natural materials, a neutral colour palette, and a lot of natural light to create a Japandi haven.
Project Requirements
Black & Milk, an established studio based in London who create modern interiors for modern homes, were hired by a renowned musician to undertake a full refurbishment of a one-bedroom apartment in Soho in a Japandi style.
‘Japandi is an interior design trend that combines elements of Japanese minimalism and rustic Scandinavian simplicity to create a hybrid style’, (collinsdictionary.com)
How did we help
Having worked with the Black & Milk team on numerous other projects we were delighted when they contacted us with this exciting opportunity.
Black & Milk strive to bring precision, beauty and understated luxury to their impeccable portfolio of residential projects and this brief was no exception. They approached their dedicated specification consultant, who listened to their requirements and proposed a suitable floor to match their vision.
Black & Milk team was then welcomed at our London Design Centre by our capable team who showed them full-scale panels of the floors suggested.
Why the floor was chosen
The brief determined that quality was paramount as was a consistent look to fulfil the Japandi style. Additionally, the length of the planks needed to be up to 2.2m to deliver the harmonious look our client required.
Ashridge is constructed using the best quality prime grade European Oak we could source. The floor offers a clean, uniform appearance with minimal knots, sap and colour variation. A smooth texture and a neutral colour tone also make it the perfect floor to achieve the Japandi Style which is a combination of Scandinavian house design and Japanese interior design.
Although an unfinished floor can take time to install and finish the results can be really unique as you can match the finish to compliment your colour scheme. Soho Loft’s floor was finished on site by the contractor in Osmo Ultra Matt, a clear transparent hard wax oil that is extremely durable.
Speaking to Anatoly Alekseev from Black & Milk the quality and availability of the floor was also significant, he said, “Having used Ted Todd before they are now our preferred supplier – they always deliver a quality product that offers excellent value for money and the availability of stock is a big advantage when working to tight project deadlines”
The majority of Ted Todd floors are held in stock at our Cheshire warehouse ready for next day delivery*
Outcome
This sophisticated apartment exudes the design principles of Japandi simplicity, with natural elements, and a sense of comfort throughout.
Floor-to-ceiling windows let in an array of natural light, and the Japanese rice paper doors, along with the clean lines and the balance of function and form within the scheme, contribute to the Feng Shui energy of the interior arrangement.
Japandi style often encourages sustainability too. The addition of natural materials, such as the FSC certified Ted Todd wood floor help to achieve this principle.
The result is an aesthetically pleasing design that effortlessly delivers the juxtaposition of sleek and rustic that is synonymous with the combined interior design style of Japandi.
