Private Residence, Cheshire
Project Type - Residential
Location - Cheshire
This modern barn conversion with expansive views of the scenic North English countryside combines traditional exposed beams with modern design features for a sophisticated and truly ‘English’ feel. This look has been ever-present in British design and continues to gather pace as a design choice across the United States, Canada and beyond.
Northbank Pine, one of our recent Rare Finds, was specified throughout the home, seamlessly flowing from room to room, balancing the large space.
These wide, long planks were reclaimed from a warehouse on the banks of the River Mersey (a famous river which runs through the North of England and was instrumental in the British industrial revolution) where they were being used as beams.
We brought the beams back to our restoration centre, where our artisans transformed them into a wide plank engineered floor that pairs historic reclaimed wood with modern construction technology. The boards were brushed and finished with Naked Skin Lacquer to ensure there was no color change to the pale, elevated grain.
This floor has been in place for several years now and the patina is only growing richer and richer as it is walked upon by the family throughout its lifecycle. The wood will continue to mature, which is the beauty of a wooden floor, adding grace and poise as it ages.
Claremont, from our Bold Surfaces portfolio, was used on the ceilings of the property.
Using this reclaimed cladding, with its delightful light and natural tones, adds much-wanted soul and feeling to the roof areas, bringing a new dimension to the hallway, landing and office spaces.
Painted and then worn down by hand to show its unique saw marks, it gives a minimalistic, modern aesthetic that complements the pale grey walls.
For this property our artisans also handcrafted a bespoke sliding door. Painted a bright orange-red, it is a modern and eye catching entrance to the master bedroom which juxtaposes the more natural tones within the rest of the home, being a bespoke statement piece.
By pairing reclaimed woods on the flooring and ceiling, the designer of this property has created a serene space which is perfect for modern family living, with the project providing a welcome link to the natural world and the past, without having to compromise on modern-day durability and stability.
