Project: contemporary new build
Location: Tenby, Wales
Architect: OB Architecture
Contractor: Carreg Construction
Work began on Wyndham and Ann Collins’ self-build coastal home in Tenby, South Wales in November 2015. Having previously lived on the coast, it was important for them to keep the sea-view and this location truly delivered. The three-storey, four bedroom home was completed in 2017 with Ted Todd’s Kinver Edge floor used throughout many rooms. So let’s take a look around…
Natural materials such as slate and wood were used for the exterior of this home to give it a natural look that works harmoniously with the rest of the landscape. White concrete walls have been used at selected points to protect the home from stormy coastal weather.
Entrance and Hallway
The owners wanted to create a contemporary home using timber, slate and glass with these materials used seamlessly from the outside in.
A pallet of greys has been used in the kitchen and living area of this home with windows at all angles to let sunlight flood in and give a panoramic view of the coast.
Stairs and Landing
To truly appreciate the architecture inside this home you have to walk up to the third floor and look down at the house below. The simple plain white walls contrast with the knots and warmth of the Kinver Edge floor to give the open spaces a warm feel. Stopping off at the snug on the way you can sit inside, or out on the balcony to take in the breathtaking coastal view.
Finally, we visit one of the four bedrooms in this coastal retreat. Continuing the clean décor of the hall and landing. The fresh minimalist feel means all you need to focus on when waking up in the morning is this breath-taking view.
